Covid-19 For the First Time

I am one of those lucky ones that avoided Covid-19 (technical name coronavirus SARS-CoV-2) for years. Now I have it for the first time. Five days ago, my wife got Covid-19, and my daughter had strep. Well, the virus is still with us, and it is evolving so maybe we should stop calling it Covid-19 and just call it Covid vintage 2023, Covid vintage 2024, etc. Yesterday (Monday), well now it is after midnight so technically the day before yesterday, I got what seemed to be a cold. I had a sore throat. Then during the night (last night) I started feeling weak and tired, I had some muscle pains and I got very strong fever chills. I did not measure my temperature but based on the strong fever chills I think it must have been at least 100 degrees.

Luckily for me, the Covid vintage 2024 is milder than the original. Right now, I have a fever and fever chills, but not as strong as last night. I went to our doctor’s office here in Dallas today to get professionally tested for covid and strep. I did not have strep, but I had covid. Naturally my wife and I need to isolate and maybe our daughter too. We suggested she takes into a hotel, so she does not get covid, but she does  not want to. I may not be as active blogging for a few days but here are some covid related jokes.

From the Shining a horror movie. Wendy, Jack and Danny are on their way to the overlook hotel.
Look at Jack’s smug face. This scene is funny. The photo is from BoredPanda.
The Goodfellas are sitting around laughing at a joke. Why are we running out of toilet paper? Because when someone sneezes a 100 people shit themselves.
Remember the toilet paper shortage?
Corona beer changes their name to avoid association with the Coronavirus outbreak. The new name is "Ebola Extra".

I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

  1. No fun! I hope you’re feeling better soon. As a friend of mine said when I came down with it. “Not recommended. All the Yelp reviews are pretty down on it.”

    Take care, my friend.

    1. Yes it hits very differently. The first time our daughter got it she got very sick and our younger son’s girlfriend got extremely sick. I had a hard day yesterday but it is better now. Thank you so much Maggie.

  2. Sorry to hear that you’re all sick. Covid is brutal but glad the version you got isn’t too bad. It’ll take a few days to get back to normal but I’m sure you’ll all recover quickly. Never had strep but I hear it’s awful too. Wishing all of you a speedy recovery. Also, those memes are hilarious, glad you shared them.

  3. Oh no, what a bummer. I really hated how achy and exhausted I felt when I had it. I hope you and your family feel better soon. Thank goodness they don’t make you quarantine for 10 days any more.

  4. My wife and I dodged COVID for four years. I got much sicker than she did when we got it. She only felt poor for a couple of days while I was ill for five days, then hit with a relapse for another few days. Hope you’re back to 100% soon, Thomas.

  5. We are free to go places, to travel, to live our normal lives – and we forget that covid though in a milder form, it’s still with us. Had it twice. It was awful indeed. Plenty of rest, good food and good spirits – don’t let it bring you down. Hope you get well soon 🙏

    1. Thank you so much I appreciate your kind words. I have to admit I thought we were mostly done with covid but it is still around and currently spreading and gaining ground in several US states. Luckily the current variants are less severe.

  6. So sorry to hear you’ve got COVID but also hugely impressed that you managed to avoid it for 4 years. I do hope that you are already through the worst of it and fighting your way back to full strength. The movie stills gave me a giggle, also they are from two of my all-time favourite films 😉

    1. Thank you so much Leighton. I think I am mostly through it by now. My throat ache is gone, my fever is down, my musle aches mostly gone, but I am still a bit sleepy. But I am fine. Lime you I like both movies too.

    1. Thank you so much Debbie. Today was the first time in nine days that I was well enough to have a beer, a Corona of course. I think I am mostly back to normal now, but I still need to wear a mask when I go outside.

  7. Thomas, so sorry you’ve got this as it is horrid and one feels so rotten. I hope the worst of the symptoms are over and your daughter managed not to catch it. You’ve done well to avoid Covid until now – my son has had it three times and badly each time, alas. I really appreciate you reading and reviewing my book while you were poorly – that is dedication! Take care and wishing you full health soon. Annika

    1. Thank you so much for your kindness Annika. Yes I guess I’ve been lucky avoiding it sofar. According to my doctor today is the last day I need to wear a mask in public. I am symptom free and our daughter did not catch it.

      1. Two bits of good news! I am impressed they still test for Covid – here they only seem to do if you are in hospital although this makes little difference and you still remain in the same ward as everyone else!

    2. I have to admit I thought we were done with it and that I had avoided it completely, but there’s been an uptick here in the southern United States and it is back (Omicron). A lot of people are suddenly getting it again. They have home test kits but at my doctor’s office they test professionally upon request. If you have it, like I did, you have to isolate for five days, monitor symptoms, and then there is five more days of wearing a mask in public. Today is my last day of wearing a mask in public.
