My name is Thomas Wikman. I am a software/robotics engineer with a background in physics. I am currently retired. I took early retirement. I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

Thank you so much David. Tonight we are just sitting at home and giving trick or treaters candy. However, I am reading a horror book and on Saturday we went to the world’s largest Halloween Park, Screams in Waxahachie (Texas). Have a fun and spooky night you too.

LOL! I love the photo of the dogs. What a riot. Years ago, my grandson wanted a Yoda costume that he saw at a pet store. We told him it was a costume for a dog, but he didn’t care and wore it for the entire month of November! Thanks for the fun photo and for bringing up a cherished memory. 🙂

Thank you so much Diana. That is a really funny story. He must have looked really cute. I can’t believe he wore it all of November.

He was probably 2 years old (maybe 3?) and it was for a big dog. Lol.

Happy Halloween! Those are great costumes! I listen to a singer whose stage name is Waxahatchee, but she apparently took it from a river in Alabama and not that place in Texas …

Thank you. Yes Jen did a good job. I had to look that up and I realized there are many Waxahatchee including a river in Florida, and a creek in Texas, in addition to the ones we mentioned. I incorrectly thought it was a pretty unique name.

Halloween is not a ‘thing’ here but I enjoyed watching yours (USA) from afar.

Oh yes of course. I forgot. It was not a thing in Sweden when I was a kid either. It is somewhat of a thing now though.

Yes thank you Jennifer. We visited Screams in Waxahachie, the largest Hallowen Park, kids did trick or treating at our house, and there was a little bit of candy left over, and I watched horror movies (my wife only watched one, she doesn’t like them).

These “mountain lion” dogs are gorgeous.
So dignified in their costumes.
We have a Rottweiler cross. She has the spirit of the Rottweiler in her. Very dignified. She would never beg. Such a softie old girl now.

Thank you so much, Patricia. I realized I did not mention the breed in the caption. They are Leonbergers, a rare large breed similar to St. Bernards and Newfoundland dogs. In fact, according to the breeds founder Heinrich Essig, he crossed a St. Bernard with a Newfoundland and a Pyrenees Mountain Dog (some believe a Great Pyrenees Dog) and then a St. Bernard again at the beginning of the 19th century. However, that narrative has been questioned. There are probably other dogs in there as well, possibly the German farm dog that’s the foundation behind the German Shepherd. Anyway, we had a Leonberger and I wrote a book about him and the crazy stories he gave us, and the Leonberger breed in general.
That is really nice about your Rottweiler. Big dogs can be so sweet when they get older. Give her a dog hug from me.
