25 Leonberger Faces

This is another post with the “25 Leonberger photos” theme. This time the theme is Leonberger faces. The post feature close ups of Leonbergers looking into the camera. A lot of the photos are of our late Leonberger Bronco but there are many other Leonberger photos as well. Below is a list of the previous posts using the theme 25 Leonberger photos.

Also don’t forget to check out my new blog if you haven’t done so.

25 Leonberger Faces

About half of the photos of Leonberger faces below are mine, mostly of our Leonberger Bronco. There are also several photos by Jen O’Keefe and Leonberger community friend. There is also a photo by Brenda Seito and one by Debbie Ireland, and the illustration of Bronco’s face was made by Naomi Rosenblatt.

Bronco is taking a break during a walk. He is very old for a Leonberger. Leonbergers typically live 8-10 years. This is a common problem with giant breeds. In this picture he is 12 years old and 10 months.

Our Leonberger Bronco was great at finding run away hamsters. This illustration depicts Bronco’s with puffy cheeks in which he is holding two run away hamsters. He saved them! Illustration by Naomi Rosenblatt.

Bronco our Leonberger with Daisy our Pug in the Kitchen. Bronco says, “look what Daisy did to the gingerbread house that stood on the counter”. Actually, what really happened was that Bronco grabbed the gingerbread house and shared it with Daisy.

Amie was a Leonberger that we met in northern Sweden. We met her and her owner on a mountain top that we had hiked up to. It was a strenuous hike so the Leonberger and her owner must have been in good shape. The name of the mountain is Skule Berget, or in English, Skull Mountain.

My name is Thomas Wikman. I am a software/robotics engineer with a background in physics. I am currently retired. I took early retirement. I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

    1. You are talking about Jen O’Keefe’s pictures. She owns a number of Leonbergers and so does Velvy her friend in the Leonberger Club of America. Which reminds me that one of those photos are Velvy’s and four of the dogs are Velvy’s and two are Jen’s. So I changed that picture to this : Six Leonbergers from left to right: Caspian (Obi’s nephew), Austin (Obi’s son), Delfi, Obi, Digory, and Rilian (Obi’s son). Photo by Velvy TheLion. I should say Velvy TheLion is just a moniker her real name is Ira VanOrder.

    2. I can add that Velvy TheLion or Ira, was the person who gave our Leonberger Bronco his Grey Muzzle Award for living so long. We also sent in his DNA for research via the Leonberger Health Foundation International. You can the story about that if you look at my list of posts above under “All Posts”

    1. Thank you so much Introverted Bookworm. The ones on the beach are Jen O’Keefe’s and Velvy TheLion’s Leonbergers. They are well known Leonberger Club of America volunteers. And it was a very nice getsures of the owners to take those pictures with their Leonberger and my book. They posted them on Canadian Amazon.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words Laura. Unlike Rollo he accepted a hat. Rollo just takes it off right away. Time flies, that was six years ago now but it feels like yesterday.

    1. Thank you Jacqui. Currently we can’t give one a home he needs either. Well we can’t give any dog a home he needs right now, because our Rollo does not like other dogs. He loved Bronco, and loved Daisy most of the time, but he freaks out if you bring another dog to the house. We were going to fix that but it takes a very long time to fix. Right now we are just living with it.

    2. I can add that unlike Rollo, Bronco accepted other dogs very easily. They both grew up with other dogs, were trained/treated the same, and we tried to take both to dog parks (Bronco fit right in, Rollo had a problem). There is an inborne personality difference.

    1. Thank you so much Ruth for showing me Trooper. He was such a beautiful dog and your photos are wonderful. I love the Rainbow poem. Your post is a wonderful tribute to Trooper. I am so sorry for your loss of Trooper. 💔💔💔

    1. Thank you so much Pooja. You are right. They are family dogs, friendly, confident, and unafraid. When you have an intruder they run after them to hug them and the intruder runs off in fear. So that way they are accidentally good guard dogs too.

        1. Yes I agree. Leonbergers have a very powerful bit, double as powerful as a German Shepherd, but Bronco would never use it on anyone. Well, except that one time when he bit by behind because I was ignoring him when he tried to get my attention. But that was not a hard bite. He loved to run up to people though, to give hugs and licks, but that sometimes frightened people. We had to watch that.

          1. Yeah, they are so large so I can imagine it would be painful if one decided to attack. But Bronco definitely seemed very playful and gentle as I’m sure most Leonbergers are. Although I’m sure they can be intimidating to those that don’t know them just because of their sheer size.
