A Female Psychopathic Killer

This is a Leonberger blog but sometimes I post about books that are not about Leonbergers but that are other types of books I love and want to promote. This book is an intriguing thriller about a beautiful female psychopathic killer by the name Marie, and it is told from her perspective. It is both creepy and amusing at the same time as well as unique and definitely a page turner. I guess you can say it is lighthearted horror but above all a good story. The author, Sara Flower Kjeldsen, has expertise in psychology, which makes the story more realistic.

Marie is a psychopath. Her range of emotions is limited. She feels no compassion, no love, she has no conscience, she is fearless, selfish and greedy, and she feels superior to people with normal feelings, which she considers to be stupid, weak and irritating. In addition, she has a sadistic streak. She is a proud beautiful trophy wife with a boring normal but rich husband. He is in love, but she is using him, the great manipulator that she is. She hides her inner craziness very skillfully and fools everyone. One day Brad, the pool boy catches her drowning a bunny rabbit in the pool for her own amusement after finding a paper with her plot to murder her husband. He realizes she is mentally sick and offers to find her a psychiatrist at the college where he studies. Well, what do you think will happen to Brad?

The author has expertise in psychology, so this is a realistic depiction of a female psychopath, but what makes it even more interesting is that the story is told from the perspective of Marie. Usually, you don’t get to be inside the head of the psychopath, the focus is on the victims, for example, as in the movie No Country for Old Men (Anton Chigurh). The story is both creepy and amusing at the same time. Marie is undoubtedly evil, but she is funny and clever. Can a psychopath be cured? Perhaps not in a conventional sense but strange things can happen. I loved this story. It was very engaging, fast-paced, entertaining and full of surprises. I highly recommend this page turner.

Sounds in the Silence

In my Leonberger blog I sometimes post about books that are not about Leonbergers but that I want to promote, and this is a book that I would like to promote. I recently read Sounds in the Silence by D.L. Finn: a mystery novel and thriller with paranormal aspects. I found this book to be very imaginative, suspenseful and fun to read and therefore I would like to promote it. It comes in a paperback edition and a Kindle edition.

A Captivating Murder Mystery with Paranormal Components

Helen and Charlie live in a mansion in a small town in the mid-twenties during the prohibition. They are a happy and outgoing couple who loves to party, but they are breaking the law by drinking and serving alcohol to the indignation of many of the locals who are under the spell of an ultra-religious and menacing preacher. Maria and Logan move into the same mansion 40 years later. Maria and Logan realize that their mansion harbors a ghostly presence who seems to want to communicate.

The story is told using two timelines, which at first seem disconnected. However, the two parallel stories are presented in a seamless fashion, and they eventually connect and merge in clever ways. The secrets of the past are discovered and explained 40 years later using this technique. I think this novel primarily is a detective story and a thriller with paranormal components. With the help of the hints from the ghost, and their keen minds and perceptiveness, Maria and Logan begin to unravel the dangerous mysteries from the past thus putting themselves in danger. The evil forces from the past are still lurking in the little town.

This book is quite thrilling as well as fun to read. The story is clever and unique and there is something unexpected and interesting happening on every page. The author’s idea of how ghosts behave and the explanation for their limited abilities in the world among the living is as believable as anything I’ve read or seen in the movies. I highly recommend this intriguing and fun book.

Review of Secrets in the Blood by Unity Hayes

This blog is primarily about Leonbergers. I review Leonberger books, but I also review books that are not about Leonbergers but that I love, and I want to promote. This post is one of those. I am reviewing Secrets in the Blood Kindle Edition, August 1, 2013 – by Unity Hayes. The book is 225 pages, ASIN ‏ : ‎ B00E50JO3A, it currently cost $2.99.

Unity is the author of Secrets in the Blood (mystery/romance – August 1, 2013). She has been writing since the age of 15 and has always dreamed of telling stories through the craft of writing. Unity is a Registered Nurse that enjoys small town living, antiquing, and spending time with her family.

An Action-Packed Romantic Thriller with Mystery and Captivating Drama

I normally don’t read books in the romance category. However, this book is so much more than a romance book. It is more than anything a mystery, a thriller, a captivating drama and a fast paced adventure. The romance is an added bonus for those who like that. What I found so intriguing about this book were the thick mysteries as well as the fast-paced action. There were surprises on almost every page. It is one of the best thrillers I’ve ever read.

The setting, a replica of an 1880’s old wild west town called the Watering Hole, appealed to me, perhaps because we’ve stayed in such a place in Arizona. It was a tourist trap of course, but it was fun. The book brought back memories from that trip and the descriptions of the town in the book felt real to me. If the Watering Hole was real, I would take my family there, well assuming that there were no murders or other strange things happening.

There’s danger, death, and a string of violent or strange events. Every page made me wonder what was going on and what was going to happen next. As I was reading my mind went to the girl with dragon tattoo, but that is a different story. This is a very good and unique story, the drama and the dialogue are brilliant, and the character development is good. The author is a registered nurse, which certainly benefitted the descriptions of injuries and the healing processes of the victims. I think realism is an important advantage. I highly recommend this fun and exciting thriller.
