Indy Author Day at Your CBD Store

So today (or rather yesterday) Saturday February 3rd, 2024, 1:00PM – 3:00PM I was participating in a book signing in Southlake Texas. It was an independent author’s book sale at “Your CBD Store, Sunmed” in South Lake. It was a friend of mine from another independent author’s book sale event at a library who invited. It was well done but a little slow. However, I still sold a few books, and I donated one to the very nice store manager Julia. Above all it was fun. I also bought a book from the woman sitting across from me (Tanya Taylor Morris) and it turned out to be a very poignant and eye-opening book that I am really glad that I came across. More on that later.

  1. Very nice author photo!! You can definitely use that for other print promos. And congratulations on selling some books. Yay!!! I used to do booksignings every month at my local Waldenbooks and Barnes & Noble before all the chain bookstores in my city closed. They were always such fun!! I love meeting new people. And booksignings were a great opportunity to add new people to my mailing list (those who purchased a book and those who didn’t). I’m thrilled you had such a successful signing yesterday. So happy for you!!! 🩷

    1. Thank you so much for your very kind words chihuahuagirl3. It is great that you had so many book signings in the past but sad that all those book chains closed. I should say that this was a fun event, but it was a bit slow. During those two hours about 10 people showed up and I sold three books, and gave away one, which is less than what I sold on Amazon during the same time. But it’s a way of spreading the word, meeting other independent authors, and something interesting to do. Also I was reading the book I mentioned while there were no people in the store.

    1. Thank you so much Leighton. The sales weren’t brisk, in fact I sold more on Amazon during on the same day, but it isn’t why you go. It is to network, meet other independent authors, and it’s fun, and then selling a little bit is good too.

    1. Yes thank you very much Jacqui. There weren’t many customers coming in during those two hours (maybe 10) but I think everyone were curious about the big dog. I also had a poster in front of the table that you don’t see in the picture.

    2. Ha ha yes you are right. Meeting people is really the main point of an event like this. I am not complaining at all, it was fun. But I felt sorry for the store owner who got 10 customer but she had baked maybe a 100 cupcakes.

    1. Ha ha, I was surprised that so few people were interested in the candy. Only one person took a Hershey’s candy and now my wife and I have to eat it all. Only about 10 people showed up, I sold/signed three books, donated one to the store owner, which was less than I sold on Amazon about the same time. However, it was great to meet other independent authors, networking, everyone was nice, and the store owner was very nice and did a great job, and I read a great book while it was quiet (the book I bought from another author).

    1. Yes you are right but it was a lot quieter than the library booksignings I’ve been to, but as you say, brisk sales isn’t why you are going. It is to network, meet other independent authors and have fun. Maybe we independent authors should have done a better job advertising the event because only about 10 people showed up during the entire time and the store owner had baked maybe a hundred cupcakes.

      1. Oh wow, a hundred cupcakes!! Our local library is doing a good job announcing the future events and speakers. One author became a best-seller after the first book. He wrote a second book. He lives in Seattle, three hours of drive to Portland. He’ll be the book speaker this month and I’m sure he’ll sign his books.
