Dog Portraits

For American Father’s Day (yesterday) I got a number of presents and cards including a portrait of our late pug Daisy. She passed April 5th. For my birthday in March, I got a portrait of our late Leonberger Bronco. With this post I just wanted to show these portraits. They are made by a company called Etsy and the portraits are based on our photos.

Daisy our beige pug is laying in the grass and there are some flowers.
A painting of our late pug Daisy who passed two months ago. It is based on one of our photos and created by Etsy. I believe by the same woman who made Bronco’s portrait (have to verify this).
Painting showing our Leonberger Bronco’s face. Like all Leonbergers he has a black mask and fluffy hair.
The portrait was drawn by Veniceme at Etsy (Natasha Dall’Ara) and it is based on one of our photos.

My name is Thomas Wikman. I am a software/robotics engineer with a background in physics. I am currently retired. I took early retirement. I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

  1. Very cool, Thomas. How ironic that you mention Etsy. I just got a book from a blogger friend today which was sent through Etsy.

  2. Wow!! Those are fantastic likenesses. Gifts you will treasure forever. I love Etsy. Etsy actually didn’t do your portraits. Etsy is just a big shopping mall online with thousands of small shops owned by individual people just like any shopping mall. The wonderful thing about Etsy is most of the shops are owned by artists or craftspeople creating original pieces for sale, including portrait artists like the one who painted your portraits for you. Whoever ordered those portraits for you commissioned the artist who owns that particular shop on Etsy to paint them. That person paid the artist for the portraits, and Etsy took a percentage of the sale (just like PayPal) because Etsy hosts that shop. Kind of like renting space from a shopping center. I could have a shop on Etsy to sell my books if I wanted to. I have shopped on Etsy for years. I much prefer it to Amazon. You can buy any kind of original art or craft there. I have also bought vintage jewelry and handbags at awesomely low prices, handsewn book covers, religious jewelry, paintings, you name it!! As a matter of fact, my wedding ring came from a silversmith in New York who also happens to have an Etsy shop, which is where I got my ring. I use the Etsy app for iPhone to do all my ordering. Once you download the app you can do a search for any item you want. All the shops that carry that item will come up. Then you just find the item you want at the price you want and order it. I love ordering from Etsy shops. It’s so easy!!

      1. You would love it! It’s always my first go-to. And I always recommend it. You can get some great prices there. When my husband was looking for a certain kind of golf club, one that was slightly used, I told him to check Etsy!!

  3. Those are great! I remember back in 2018, not long after we lost Dennis, a mysterious package arrived from Chewy containing portraits of our cats Charlee & Chaplin that they had done for no apparent reason. That was a nice surprise for when we were feeling sad.

  4. Those are beautiful, Thomas. So well done. We had a portrait painted of our beloved Golden and cherish it. For some reason it feels more special than photos. Thanks for sharing and I hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day.
