When I was in second grade, I liked horror stories, and my favorite animal was the Murder Moose. The Murder Moose was a big Moose with big teeth, and it went around killing people in my village in northern Sweden where I lived. In school I wrote my first story about the Murder Moose, and I made a drawing. My story and my drawing are unfortunately lost but with the help of ChatGPT I made another drawing based on my memories from my childhood’s Murder Moose. I should say that at the time I knew nothing about Dinosaurs yet, otherwise my favorite animal might have been Dinosaurs.

As an adult my perspective has changed. Now I love dogs. I have a dog, Rollo, and have owned many dogs, something that I never had a chance to do as a kid. I love dogs very much and I am especially fond of Leonberger dogs. I wrote a book about Leonbergers and our late Leonberger dog Bronco, or Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle to be precise. The title of the book is “The Life and Times of Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle, Stories and Tips from Thirteen Years with a Leonberger”.

However, the first dogs we had as a family was our Labrador Baylor and German Shepherd Baby. I should say that Baylor was not a purebred Labrador, he was one quarter Rhodesian Ridgeback.

One of the reasons I love dogs is that they are very social and often quite intelligent. They provide companionship, they are loving, loyal, fun, innocent, playful and they can also provide protection whether it is physically or just because of their barking, which alerts us to the presence of strangers. Add to that the fact that you need to take them for daily walks, which will keep you healthy as well.
Bronco, Baylor, and Baby were not our only dogs. Below are various photos of our dogs.

That’s what I thought when I was 8 years old. The witch in the forest, the Trolls, vitter folk, the dead people walking around and the Arctic Tigers were scary too. Luckily I was able to sing beautifully to the trees who listened attentively. Childhood memories.

Charlee I am happy you love your Dada. I can certainly understand that you Chaplin, Lulu, and Oona love other cats. I am allergic to cats so I can’t have them but I love you all for short intervals. Sorry I was born that way. Lulu and Java Bean I love you and other dogs too.

That’s a good thing. So did I. I was convinced a witch lived under my bed and I used to jump into bed from the doorway of my bedroom. Eventually, my bed collapsed.

I have to admit that is funny. The bed collapsed and you crushed the witch.

The murder moose is impressive, but dogs are definitely the best! That duck with Daisy would soon end up in shreds with Marley.

Yes I love dogs. When I was reading your comment I was thinking what duck? Then I saw it. Six dogs have played with that duck but we still have it and it still makes duck sounds.

Wow! That’s amazing. Like Marley, about half the dogs at the shelter where I volunteer are compelled to demolish soft toys and get the sound maker out.

Yes soft toys are certainly a lot of fun to dogs. It is amazing to see how they go after them and argue about them. I am so grateful that your are volunteering at a shelter. It is a wonderful good deed. Thank you for doing that.

The Murder Moose looks fierce! 😆 I’m glad you switched to dogs instead, and you’ve had some great ones, over the years. Bronco was a star and you’re doing a wonderful job, keeping his memory alive.💖 I love all the photos, and it’s interesting to see one of Bronco’s ancestor.

Thank you so much for your kind words Debbie. The Worldwide Independent Leonberger Database is indeed amazing. I can look up Bronco’s litter, parents, grandparents, etc., all the way back to passed 20 generations. When I used ancestry.com for myself it turned out that I did not exist. However, using Swedish church records we found our ancestry back to 1628, and the 23AndMe was helpful. But in general Leonberger ancestry records are probably better than the average human ancestry records. I am very happy I eventually got to know dogs.

The Murder Moose sounds scary but I see why that was your favourite growing up. It sounds like an interesting tale. Dogs are wonderful, they’re a lot of fun and quite intelligent too.

Thank you so much Pooja. Where I grew up there were a lot of moose, and they could be kind of scary sometimes. I think that was my inspiration.

Yes if I don’t remember incorrectly I wrote the story at school soon after a moose encounter. The neighbor’s girl and I was walking in the forest and out of two big bushes two moose stepped out, just about 20 – 30 feet in front of us, and we screamed and ran home. The moose ran the opposite way.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That sounds like quite a shock. Glad the moose didn’t chase you. Maybe it got scared too haha.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes I think both Moose got scared because they ran in the opposite direction. We screamed and ran and that might have startled them. A bear would have reacted differently. That would have been much more dangerous.

You did very well telling AI about your memories from my childhood’s Murder Moose. Is it close to your own drawing, Thomas? Having dogs are more practical and you have many lovely dogs.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thank you so much Miriam. Well my drawing was almost as basic as a stick figure, for example, lines for antlers, but I remember drawing big teeth.

That’s great that you remember drawing big teeth, Thomas! My daughter saved some of my grandkids’ artwork. They both love to draw. Even the 5 yo draws with real arms and legs. They both can draw perfect circles for the faces!! 😄

That is great. 5 years old and real arms and legs and perfect circles is pretty good. I loved drawing when I was a kid but I don’t think I was very good at it.
