20 thoughts on “How to Launch a Successful Pet Care Business”

  1. As someone who operated a pet care business for over 25 years, I can say this is generally good advice. I too started out walking dogs and doing in-home visits for cats, birds, plants, etc., then later transitioned to boarding dogs in my home. A couple of quibbles, though: 20 minutes is NOT long enough for a dog walk, nor is 10 minutes long enough for a “drop-in”. My dog-walking sessions were always 45-60 minutes long and home visits had no specific time limit. It took as long as necessary, and 10 minutes certainly wouldn’t cut it, in any case.

    1. Yes you are right Debbie, 20 minutes is too short for most dogs, maybe a pug. Our Leonberger dog needed at least an hour per day, some other big dogs need more. It is great that your “dog-walking sessions were always 45-60 minutes long and home visits had no specific time limit”. That is being a responsble pet business owner and you are an expert on this topic.

  2. I appreciate this attention to detail. Finding dependable, competent pet care is not easy. When it comes to summertime and holidays, my pet sitter has clients who book several months in advance, so she’s not always available for us.
